As dark winter days come, people in Iceland prepare for the Jolabokaflod - the Christmas Book Flood. Excitement builds as Christmas Eve approaches and soon people sit by firesides to exchange their gifts - books! Told in gorgeous collage-like illustrations and beautiful writing, The Christmas Book Flood by Emily Kilgore gives a picture of this Icelandic holiday tradition and the magic of reading in a simple, sweet, lyrical, and just magical way.

While the story itself does not contain many facts, the “Author’s Note” gives more detail into Jolabokaflod such as its origins and how it has spread beyond Iceland.
