"...books were scarce. Most homes had none."

Ages: 6 - 9

Pages: 32

Grade Level: 1 - 4

Location: Columbia

Time Period: 2000 to present

Luis Soriano loves books and his small house seems to burst with them. His wife, however, is exasperated. "What are we going to do, eat books with our rice?" And that's when Luis gets an idea. He knows that among the hills are many isolated villages with people who love to read, but have very few books. What if he packed up his two donkeys with his books and travelled every week to those people? Biblioburro: A True Story from Columbia by Jeanette White is about one man's "Burro Library" and his mission to share the "transformative power of reading."
